Allen E. Barlow died on 19 December 2007, in Health Village, Washington Township, NJ. He was 74 years old. Al and his wife, Betty, had lived in Washington Township for ten years.

Born in Honolulu, HI, on 18 July 1933, Al’s journey to the Naval Academy began with joining the Marine Reserves, moving on to the Air Force, then to NAPS, from which he entered the Academy. While at the Academy, Al was known for his straight answers and strong convictions about various subjects, from politics to religion. He was well acquainted with the Sub Squad, along with a few Classmates, and for two years was the associate editor of the 1956 Lucky Bag.

Al married Betty Jane Roman, the love of his life, very soon after graduating from the Academy on 1 June 1956. Al served in the Air Force for ten years, and received a master of science degree in computer science from the University of Michigan. He joined the Exxon Corporation, spending time as the manager of computer sciences before moving on to Exxon Enterprises, running their systems and communications. After several other Exxon appointments, he became president of Exxon Printing Systems, Inc., Exxon’s ink jet venture company. Al was successful in each business venture he tackled.

Following his lengthy time with Exxon, he and Betty moved to Battlement Mesa, CO, for eight years, until the pull of grandchildren, and various health issues which restricted much driving, drew them back to New Jersey in 1998. Eventually, Al threw himself into studying history and he was very proud of his library of Civil War histories.

Al is survived by his wife, Betty Jane of Washington Township, NJ; son and daughter-in-law, Allen E. Barlow Jr. and Nancy of Budd Lake, NJ; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and John Garrison of Mt. Lakes, NJ; brother, William of Virginia; three grandchildren, Cynthia, Leslie and Scott. Al was predeceased by his brother, Zachary Ziegler. The Barlow Family
