Distinguished Graduate Award for 2016:  The Class of 1956 submitted one nomination for 2016:  Mitch Hart

Mitch Hart:   Co-Founder of The Home Depot.   Founded EDS (with Ross Perot) plus sole founder of several other successful smaller companies still operating in 2013.   Sponsors the Annual Leadership Conference at the Naval Academy and many other philanthropies dealing with leadership and education.   Major gifts to other universities like SMU in Dallas (Linda’s alma mater and Duke in North Carolina (son’s alma mater).

* Mitch Hart was resubmitted for 2016 jointly with Admiral Hank  Chiles , '60 who worked with and is friends with Mitch and Linda and offered to rework our previous submittal with us.


Distinguished Graduate Award for 2013:  The Class of 1956 submitted three nominations – None Chosen

         

Worth Hobbs:  Eleven stellar years in the Navy capped off as the Naval Aide to President Johnson; meteoric rise to the top in his 30 years with Alcoa; extensive philanthropic and civil leadership involvements (leadership recognition by over 11 national charities).  National Boards of Salvation Army, United Way, and Red Cross.  Emeritus Status, Salvation Army National Board--- a rarely bestowed honor joining such as Edsel Ford, Marilyn Quale, and Jerry Jones (Dallas Cowboys owner

          

Jimmy Hogg:   Dedicated entire professional life in service to the Navy—35 years of active duty retiring as an Admiral, followed by 15 years, and counting, as the civilian director of the CNO’s forward looking Strategic Studies Group which identifies revolutionary and evolutionary concepts shaping the future direction of the Navy.  Active duty highlights were commander of the Seventh Fleet in the Far East and U.S. Representative to the NATO Military Committee, where he faced the challenges and changes brought about by the demise of the Soviet Union. 

          

Bob Milligan:  35 years of service in the Marine Corps retiring as a Lt General.   Two exceptional combat tours in Vietnam as an infantry company and at the battalion level.  A respected innovator of enhanced capabilities for the Naval Service.  Upon retirement held several positions in the highest echelons of the Florida state government—comptroller (2 four- year terms where he rooted out corruption and fraud), Director of Veterans Affairs, Head of the State Board of Administration.

Other Submittals:  Nominees should be submitted by the class through the Class Presidents.   Any classmate wishing to nominate someone should be prepared to write the nomination package after class approval.  Contact George Mushalko (gmushalko@cox.net) for information on the process which consists of deep research, analysis, writing (many drafts), and strict formatting standards—a 6-month effort consuming a lot of your time.  He has worked on four submittals.
