David Ward Deutermann, 82, of Hingham, MA, formerly of Lakeville, MA died September 23, 2015 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was the husband of Martha A. (Mitchell) Deutermann. Son of the late Harold (Vice Admiral, USN) and Dorothy Deutermann, he was born in Manila, the Philippines, on May 17, 1933 into a Navy family. David graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1956 and embarked on a career as a naval officer, going to sea in diesel submarines and destroyers. He wintered over in Antarctica and did two deployments to the coast of Vietnam before shore duty at the Pentagon. He met his wife Martha on a blind date in April 1968 and they were married 3 months later. As son David arrived, he embarked on a civilian career which took the family to Louisville KY in 1970, where daughter Julia was born and where he worked as a design engineer in appliance anufacturing with General Electric. GE later spun the business to Black & Decker and the family moved to Newtown CT, where they stayed for six years before his work took him to southeastern Massachusetts where he retired in 1997. Being an engineer, he took a hobby of tinkering with antique clocks and turned it into a mastery of their repair and restoration. He was president of the New England (Chapter 8) of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He is survived by his wife Martha of 47 years; a son David; a daughter Julia Mansfield (Christopher); two grandchildren Max and Emily; and two brothers P.T. Deutermann of NC, and Stephen of WA. Visitation will take place on Saturday Oct 10, from 10-11, in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford St., LAKEVILLE, followed by a service at 11am. A reception will follow at the Fireside Grille, Middleboro. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the charity of one's choice .
