CDR Thomas Edward Eaton, Jr., USN, Retired, "Ebbie", 82, passed away on May 8, 2016 at La Casa Homes in Annapolis, MD from Alzheimer's related complications. Born on December 5, 1933 in Chester, PA to the late Frances Elsie Wilhelm and Thomas Edward Eaton, Sr., Ebbie was a 47-year resident of Mayo, MD prior to moving to Annapolis in 2015. He attended Nether Providence High School in Wallingford, PA where he lettered in baseball, football, and basketball. His athletic skills attracted the attention of pro baseball scouts who were interested in signing him right out of high school. Instead, Ebbie accepted an appointment to the US Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD and attended the Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, PA in preparation for entry to the Academy in the summer of 1952. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree and played catcher for the Navy baseball team, earning a place on the list of All-Time Navy Baseball letter winners. Upon graduation on June 1, 1956, Ebbie was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy Supply Corps. On June 9, 1956, he married Lillian Joanna McCrone of Mayo, MD. During his 20-year Navy career, CDR Eaton served across the U.S., including Athens, GA at the Navy Supply School; Norfolk, VA and Hoboken, NJ on board the USS Diamond Head; the U.S. Naval Academy, where he taught mathematics and coached baseball; the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, where he earned a Master of Science Degree; and various other assignments in locations including, Mechanicsburg, PA, Pearl Harbor, HI, Washington, DC, and Arlington and Alexandria, VA. Following his Navy career, CDR Eaton rose to the rank of Senior Vice President for CACI, Inc. and later worked as an independent Operations Research consultant and small business mentor. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Lillian; three children, Lillian Dianne (Mike) Logar , Retired CDR Susan Lyn (Ann) Eaton and Thomas Edward (Kelli) Eaton, III; one brother, Lee Wilhelm Eaton; four grandchildren, Michael (Kate) and Rachel Logar and Samantha and Jennifer Eaton; and two great-grandchildren, Charles and William Logar. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, May 14 from 10:00 am until his funeral service begins at 11:00 am at Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Blvd., Annapolis, MD. The Reverend Harold "Chip" Wright will officiate. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, MD.
