died peacefully on August 24, 2013. He was born in 1932, son of the late
Norman L. H. Frith and Edna Hackney, and grew up on the island of Bermuda, a
home dear to his heart. He
attended La Salle Military Academy in New York and Asheville School in North
Carolina. In 1956 he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in
Annapolis, Maryland and joined the United States Air Force.
He served from 1956 to 1971, with a tour of duty in Southeast Asia in
1966-1967. He flew 100 combat missions over North Vietnam in the F-105 Wild
Weasel Aircraft and was awarded The Silver Star, two awards of The
Distinguished Flying Cross and eleven Air Medals. His Flight Commander
described him as “cool and decisive in combat” and a man who displayed
“initiative, enthusiasm and loyalty.”
After the Air Force, he joined Varian Associates Inc and later Motorola.
In retirement, Norman and his wife, Sarita, divided their time between Gates
Mills, Ohio and Bermuda. He spent many happy, competitive hours playing golf in
both places. He was a member of the Chagrin Valley Hunt Club and the Kirtland
Country Club. In Bermuda he belonged to Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, Coral Beach
Club, Mid-Ocean Club and Riddles Bay Golf Club.
He was a member of the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association, the “Wild
Weasels” Organization, and he was involved with the Air Warrior Courage
Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Sarita B. Frith; sister, Margaret Frith; sons,
Norman and Martin; daughters, Leah, Joanna, stepdaughters Tanya, Sally, Laurie,
Jane and Sarita; grandsons, Justin and Alex; great grandson, Phoenix. He is
predeceased by his son, Scott and stepdaughter, Sabrina.

Family Services will be held at Lakeview Cemetery.
“A Gathering of Family and Friends” will be held on Thursday, August 29th at 4
pm at the Kirtland Country Club, 39438 Kirtland Road, Willoughby, Ohio.
