Walter L. Ghering of Alliance, OH, died at 5:15 am on Wednesday, 18 July 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 81 years old.

He was born on 3 November 1930, in Edinboro, PA, to Boyd and Luceil (Darrow) Ghering. He served in the United States Navy and was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. Walter was a graduate of Penn State University, earning his Ph.D. in physics, and worked as a research scientist for Babcock and Wilcox. Walter also enjoyed woodworking and playing golf.

Survivors include his brother, Boyd W. Ghering, Jr. (Sandra) of Doylestown, PA; sister, Carol Ghering Young (Travis) of Altoona, PA; five nephews; and two nieces. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Jerry; and sister, Eris.
