Charles Jasper Hansen, Jr.

Charles Jasper Hansen, Jr., (13), (Charlie) of Richardson, Texas, died February 29, 2012 after a sudden illness. He was 77 at the time and had Marjorie Hansen, his loving wife of 53 years at his side. Charles was born on November 29, 1934, in Sandersville, Georgia. Charles graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Georgia Military Academy at College Park, GA in 1952 and received honor appointments to both the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York and The United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. Charles was a Midshipman at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned into The United States Air Force. He married Marjorie on August 30, 1958 in Lake Wales, Florida.

Charles served 20 years in the Air Force, retiring in 1976 with the rank of Major. During his time in the Air Force, Charles received a Master's Degree from the United States Air Forces Institute of Technology Air University, Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio in 1966. He also served as a staff development engineer and electronic warfare officer on a B-52 bomber crew. He was assigned to the Scout Missile Launch Team from 1966 to 1971 at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. Charles served as a navigator on a C-130 crew at Phan Rang Air Base, Vietnam and served as an electronics officer on an AC-119K gunship crew based at Nakhon Phanom, Thailand.

He received the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service from 1966 to 1970. The President of The United States awarded The Air Medal to Charles for Meritorious Achievement While Participating in Aerial Flight from May 1971 through November 1971. Charles received a 100% total combat-related disability from the Veterans Administration. He was greatly honored to serve his country. Following his twenty year service in The United States Air Force, Charles served as a Professional Engineer (PE) for Lone Star Gas Company in Dallas, Texas.

He retired in 1996 and devoted his remaining years to family and church, serving 6 years as usher captain at The Church of the Holy Communion in Dallas. Charles was a loving husband, father and grandfather and lived an exemplary life as a Christian devoted to God, service, honor, duty, country, and family. Charles was also an active member in the Dallas Naval Academy Alumni Association.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie Tindell Hansen; sons Charles Gregory Hansen of Dallas, Texas; Christopher Brian Hansen of Allen, Texas; and Granddaughters Brittany Michelle Hansen, Sarah Rebecca Hansen, and Taylor Renee Hansen, Allen, Texas. Visitation will be Sunday March 4 2p-4p at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at The Church of the Holy Communion, Dallas, Texas on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at the adjacent Frankford Cemetery. A reception will be held at Lunt Hall at the church.
