born June 27, 1933 in Hazleton PA passed away on April 4, 2013. Beloved husband of Roberta Roper, devoted father of Stephanie Roper (deceased), Sharon Thompson, Brian Roper, Daniel Roper, and Peter Roper; grandfather of Samia Roper (deceased), Jacob Roper, Jessica Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Henry Roper, Sarah Thompson, Vincent Thompson (deceased), Megan Kaiser and Douglas Kaiser. He was brother to Barbara Roper Bonina of Longboat Key, FL, Marilyn Roper Marsden (deceased) and James Gerard Roper, Coatesville, PA.Enlisting in the US Navy at the age of 17, Vincent was selected to attend the US Naval Academy and graduated with the class of 1956. After serving numerous tours around the world as a naval officer, he retired as a Captain after more than 30 years of service. In 1982, following the death of their daughter Stephanie, Vincent and Roberta founded the Stephanie Roper Committee & Foundation, Inc. as a grass roots organization lobbying for victims' rights and services. This work continues today as the Maryland Crime Victims' Resource Center, Inc. Vincent was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Most Holy Rosary Council #11511 and the Naval Weather Service Association. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Vincent will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Saint Joseph Center, Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 11704 Duley Station Road, Upper Marlboro, MD. Visitation will commence at 9:30 a.m., before the service. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD. The family requests donations to the Maryland Crime Victims Resource Center or The Stephanie Ann Roper Scholarship Fund at Frostburg State University in lieu of flowers.
