David N. Sibley

David N. Sibley, Commander USNR (Ret.) passed away on 19 July 2012 in Jacksonville, FL with his loving family at his side.

 

Following his graduation with the Naval Academy’s 12 th Company, “Dave” first served in LEYTE (CVS-32), then proceeded to Submarine School, qualifying in 1960. He served in TRUMPETFISH (SS-425) and AMBERJACK (SS-522) before earning a BS (EE) degree at postgraduate school. Dave was conscripted for nuclear power training in 1964, after which he served in TINOSA (SSN-606) and as a new construction executive officer in PARG) (SSN-650). Following Fleet Ballistic Missle Command School in 1968, he served as executive officer in LINCOLN (SSBN-602), conducting deterrent patrols from Holy Loch, Scotland.

 

Dave resigned his commission in 1970 and went to work for Ross Perot ’53 at Electronic Data Systems in Dallas, as a systems engineer in the life insurance industry; subsequently holding senior managerial positions at US Life and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, retiring in Jacksonville.

 

Dave and his wife, Carol, divorced in 1994 after raising three wonderful daughters and a son. Shortly thereafter, Dave met Sandra “Sandy” Merrill, to whom he referred as his one-and-only, and who has been his life companion since – traveling, visiting family, and enjoying life to the fullest.

 

Besides Sandy, he is survived by his daughters, Susan (Paul Riggs) of Spring, TX, Elizabeth (Eric Royal) of Coppell, TX, and Karen (Tom Carey) of Santa Barbara, CA; son Andrew Sibley (Jana) of Bluff Dale, TX; and seven grandchildren.
