Edward L. Toohey, Jr.

born March 29, 1932 in Bridgeport, CT passed away December 31, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ed graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1956. During his 10 year career, he served on various destroyers in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Fleets until resigned his commission in 1967 to enter the business world. Upon leaving the Navy, he commenced a career in air conditioning sales and management which spanned over 40 years.

While stationed in Washington DC he met Jean M. Mahan on a blind date in October 1957 .They married in October 1958 and spent the next 41 years together raising their three children until Jean’s untimely death in 2000. Some of their favorite times were on the many sales trips Ed won over the years. The highlight of their travels was a trip to Ireland prior to Jean’s illness.

In December 2002, Ed married his current wife, Marj Toohey . Much of their time was spent pursuing Ed’s passion for piloting gliders and Marj’s devotion to raising champion collies. Marj provided steadfast support to Ed during his battle with cancer.

Ed was an active member of the Soaring Club of Houston where he continued his service to his country by training cadets for Civil Air Patrol. In addition to the Soaring Club, Ed and Marj enjoyed volunteering with Huntsville Pets Helping People‘s READ program where they and their collies provided assistance to students struggling with reading. Ed was active in the local Republican Party where he served as Republican Precinct 15 Chairman. Ed was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish and the Knights of Columbus.

Survived by: wife Marj, his daughter Kathleen Cameron and her husband Alston, his son Edward L. Toohey III and his wife Pepper and their sons Edward and Jack, and daughter Jean M.Toohey, his stepsons Scot A. Pott and Keith E. Pott, his wife Denise, their children Brian, Adrianna and Hayden, his brother Robert F. Toohey and sister Ann Marie Gallagher.

Ed will be remembered as a man of integrity who took the extra steps to do things the right way.
